What to look forward to
Arsenal return to action at Emirates Stadium looking for their first home win of the Premier League campaign when Southampton visit on Saturday.
Arsene Wenger’s side picked up three points at Watford before the international break to kick-start their season after registering a single point from their opening two games.
In February, Arsenal were held by the Saints, then managed by Ronald Koeman, as they conceded ground in the title race, but will this time hope to thrust themselves towards the early pace-setters with victory in north London.
The Gunners will be looking to close down the five point gap between themselves and Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Team News
Arsenal
Arsenal’s new signings Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi are in contention for their debuts, while Olivier Giroud is ready for his first start of the season after having an extended break following his Euro 2016 excursion. Alex Iwobi could feature after shaking off a hip injury.
Per Mertesacker, Gabriel, Danny Welbeck, Carl Jenkinson, and Aaron Ramsey all miss out through injury.
Nacho Monreal picked up a knock in Arsenal’s last game against Watford but he should be fit to play.
Southampton
Southampton are hopeful Fraser Forster will be available again after suffering an arm injury, but if not Alex McCarthy will deputise.
Record signing Sofiane Boufal is expected to make his debut, but it may be that Claude Puel uses the former Lille forward from the bench rather than from the start.
Jeremy Pied is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, with Florin Gardos also unavailable through injury.
